Where it all began - my rugs.

I distinctly remember being 8 months pregnant, and packing my car with all of my pottery tools & supplies as if I was packing away Christmas decorations. I thought I would get back to them again someday. I also thought I would be completely satisfied living my dream of being a stay at home mom to our adorable little girls. But, my hands and creative brain got itchy after four years of complete immersion into the 24/7/365 cycle of motherhood.

Serendipity. I walked into a charming fabric store in Ocean City, New Jersey while my infant and toddler daughters were napping. There was a crocheted rag rug on display advertising a class. It was one of those turning points in life - I knew instantly that that rug was what I wanted to make - what would satisfy my restless fingers. So portable, so easy to stop & start, so textural, so colorful. Working as a floral designer for a decade had transformed me into someone passionate about color. A far cry from the earth tone palette of a high fired stoneware potter....

My rugs are made entirely by my hands. I collect my fabrics from the work rooms of decorators, upholsterers and woolen mills. I choose the fabrics I want for my rugs as a painter would choose her paints. I then painstakingly cut all of these unusually shaped scrap fabrics into strips. I choose the size hook I want from the collection of fine wooden crochet hooks I own that have been handmade by Oregon craftsmen Ed Jenkins of Yarn Tools - http://www.yarntools.com. The rug begins to take shape as I choose my fabrics; balancing color, texture and value, to create a soothing composition.

I make my rugs in simple shapes; round, oval, square and rectangular. The majority of my rugs are used as area rugs - at the bedside, in the nursery, in a children's room, study, den, or powder room. I work closely with my clients to learn the surroundings & palette of the room in which their rug will be featured. Please email me with your size, shape and fabric requirements so that I can create a custom price quote for you.
